First accurate map of North Mayo GAA Clubs!
Despite over a century and a half of GAA clubs established in North Mayo, there exists no accurate map of these same club boundaries. This is due to the absence of an accurate parish based map of the region – and clubs are formed using such parishes demarcations as their territorial hinterland. The map below is abstracted from ‘North Mayo – West Sligo Modern Parishes of c.1980’. Townland Based Map, by Liam Alex Heffron, as part of his PhD studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway.

The clubs are all based on their parishes with the following exceptions:
Belmullet is made up of two parishes (Kilmore-Erris and Belmullet) as is Bonniconlon (Bonniconlon and Attymass)
Ballina is essentially the part of the parish of Kilmoremoy west of the river Moy, and Ardnaree is east of the river.
Cooneal (alias Ballysakeery) has no club and thus GAA players from this parish play with the surrounding clubs of Killala, Kilfian, Moygownagh, Ardagh and Ballina.
